Cusco - Santa María - Santa Teresa
Our incredible adventure begins bright and early as we pick you up from your hotel between 7 and 7:30 am. We will embark on a journey towards the breathtaking Sacred Valley of the Incas. During the two-hour drive, you will be treated to magnificent views of the majestic Vilcabamba and Vilcanota mountains, as well as panoramic vistas of the Sacred Valley.
After this scenic ride, we will make a brief stop in the charming town of Ollantaytambo for a chance to stretch your legs and use the restroom. Continuing for another hour, we will reach the Abra Malaga pass, situated at an impressive altitude of 4,316m/14,160 ft. Here, our exhilarating downhill bicycle ride begins, spanning approximately three hours. As we descend, you will be captivated by the stunning landscape and have the opportunity to observe a variety of flora and fauna along the way.
Our cycling adventure leads us to the town of Huamanmarca, where we will pause for a delicious lunch and explore some small Inca ruins. Energized and enthralled, we will then proceed to the town of Santa María in our vehicle. In the afternoon, we offer an exciting option for those seeking an extra thrill—an invigorating rafting experience (please note that rafting is not recommended during the rainy season for safety reasons).
As the day draws to a close, we will embark on a scenic one-hour drive to the welcoming town of Santa Teresa. Here, we will spend the night in comfortable family lodgings and savor a delightful dinner at a local restaurant. For those seeking relaxation, there is an additional option to visit the soothing Cocalmayo hot springs in Santa Teresa (at an extra cost).
Please ensure that your hotel is located in the historical city center for the morning pickup, as most Airbnbs can be challenging to locate or are situated far from the city center. Alternatively, we can arrange a specific meeting point for your convenience.
Santa Teresa - Aguas Calientes (Hike)
After enjoying a scrumptious breakfast in Santa Teresa, we will embark on an exciting adventure to the base of the Zipline. Our knowledgeable guide will provide all the necessary safety equipment, ensuring a thrilling and secure experience. This exhilarating activity will span approximately 3 hours, during which you will have the opportunity to soar through the air on 6 different ziplines of varying lengths. Additionally, you will traverse an incredibly long hanging bridge nestled within the lush jungle.
Following this adrenaline-filled adventure, we will board our transportation and make our way to Hidroeléctrica, where a delicious lunch awaits. After indulging in a satisfying meal, we will commence a scenic walk alongside the enchanting Vilcanota River, which will lead us to the town of Aguas Calientes in approximately 3 hours. Upon our arrival, we will check into our cozy hostel and gather for our final group meal, savoring the camaraderie and reflecting on the incredible experiences shared throughout our journey.
Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco
We will commence our ascent to Machu Picchu in the early morning, around 4:30 am, to witness the mesmerizing sunrise from the ancient Inca city. This moderate hike will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. Alternatively, you have the option to take a bus (not included) and it is advised to catch the first bus to arrive at Machu Picchu by 6 am. Once we reach Machu Picchu, our knowledgeable guide will lead us on a comprehensive tour that spans approximately 2 hours (please note that the guided tour is conducted for the entire group). During this insightful tour, you will have the opportunity to explore the key sites such as Intihuatana, The Sacred Plaza, The Temple of the Sun, and The Temple of the Condor, while delving deeper into the rich history of this hidden architectural marvel. Following the guided tour, you will have a couple of additional hours to freely explore Machu Picchu at your own pace, fully immersing yourself in the unique ambiance of the Inca citadel.
For those who have obtained entrance tickets to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, there is also the option to conquer one of these peaks. However, please be aware that availability is limited and regulated by the government and the Ministry of Culture. Scaling Huayna Picchu takes approximately 2 hours, while Machu Picchu Mountain requires around 3 hours. The duration of your stay at Machu Picchu will largely depend on whether or not you decide to undertake one of these mountain climbs.
Upon concluding our exploration of Machu Picchu, you have two options for returning to Cusco:
Train Option: This choice allows for an extended visit to Machu Picchu, providing ample time to climb one of the mountains, which requires a minimum of 3 hours. After spending approximately 7 or 8 hours in Machu Picchu, you will need to return to Aguas Calientes to catch the 18:20 train to Ollantaytambo, which takes approximately 2 hours. From Ollantaytambo, a 2-hour car ride will transport you back to Cusco, with an estimated arrival time of around 10:30 pm.
** If you have a specific train time preference, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Car Option: With this option, you will arrive at Machu Picchu around 6:00 am and embark on a 2-hour guided tour, followed by some time to explore independently. If you choose to return by car and plan to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain, it is possible but will require a rushed schedule, as you will need to depart Machu Picchu by 11:30 am to allow for a 3-hour walk back to Hidroeléctrica, ensuring you catch the 2:30 pm car back to Cusco, which entails a 6-hour journey. We highly recommend considering an additional night in Aguas Calientes and returning to Cusco by car the following day, allowing for a more relaxed and enjoyable experience.
